Abstract

Marine pollution caused by ship waste remains a critical environmental challenge, contributing to the degradation of marine ecosystems and threatening biodiversity. Despite existing regulations, such as the MARPOL Convention, many ships struggle with proper waste disposal due to limited access to port reception facilities, high operational costs, and logistical constraints. This research explores the development and implementation of a Mobile Ship Pump System as an innovative solution to enhance maritime waste management and reduce illegal waste discharge into the ocean. This study evaluates the efficiency, environmental impact, regulatory compliance, and economic feasibility of the mobile system through a comparative analysis with traditional waste disposal methods. The research employs field studies, stakeholder interviews, and environmental assessments to determine the system’s effectiveness in collecting and managing various types of ship waste, including oil residues, ballast water, sewage, greywater, and chemical discharge. Results indicate that the Mobile Ship Pump System significantly improves waste collection accessibility, encourages compliance with environmental regulations, and offers a cost-effective alternative to existing waste management solutions. Furthermore, the system has the potential to reduce marine pollution levels, ensuring cleaner waterways and promoting sustainable shipping practices. The findings suggest that adopting mobile waste collection technology can serve as a practical and scalable approach to addressing ship-generated marine pollution. The study also provides policy recommendations for improving waste management regulations, financial incentives for ship operators, and integration of advanced environmental monitoring technologies. Future research should explore the long-term sustainability, large-scale implementation strategies, and potential technological enhancements to further optimize the system’s impact.
